ADDICTION & RECOVERY
_____________________________________
Addiction can take many forms. Substance use or compulsive behaviours often develop as ways of coping with emotional pain, trauma, anxiety, shame, or experiences that have become overwhelming or impossible to manage in other ways.
Rather than focusing solely on stopping a behaviour, therapy explores what addiction has been doing for you and the role it has played in your life. As understanding grows, so too can the capacity to do things differently.
Alongside my private practice, I have undertaken specialist training in addiction with Carolyn Cowan and worked within an addiction charity, supporting both people in recovery and family members affected by addiction. I have experience working with clients who engage with 12-step programmes, as well as those who choose different paths to recovery.
Recovery is rarely a straight line. Therapy offers a space to understand the patterns beneath addiction, strengthen emotional resilience, and develop a more flexible, compassionate, and sustainable way of relating to yourself.
